All video projects now have carbon offsetting as standard

MPL Broadcast is soon to become one of (if not the) first production companies to operate with the environment at the top of the agenda. We intend to reduce the impact we have on the environment in the following ways:

Liquid Petroleum Gas

Carbon neutral video projects

Electricity usage reductions

We are becoming the countries only production company to passionately take the impact on the environment caused by our business.

By using us you are not only getting first class service, you are
also helping to protect the planet for all of us!

Liquid Petroleum Gas

In an effort to reduce the emissions to the environment by their main vehicle, MPL Broadcast have had it converted to run on LPG, or Liquid Petroleum Gas. Not only does this have little or no impact on performance or consumption, it also reduces harmful Nitrogen Oxides by half, and Hydrocarbons and Carbon Monoxide by 95%.

Fortunately the government has given the gas producers a tax break to enable them to sell the fuel much cheaper than petrol and diesel. LPG is currently being sold for around 45p/litre. Unfortunately though they have also removed the grant that was in place to convert new cars to LPG. Subsequently new car sales that can run on gas fell from over 4000 to only a few hundred last year. Shame. We think the government really need to realise that this is the future of green motoring until systems like hydrogen fuel cells are cost effective.

Carbon neutral video projects

From April, all video projects that MPL Broadcast are involved in will be carbon neutral. This means that with every invoice, MPL's clients will also get a statement of how much their jobs have effected the environment. MPL Broadcast will calculate the amount of CO2 generated by our cars and air travel, and replace as many trees as necessary to neutralise the CO2 emitted to the atmosphere.

In the initial stages, MPL will be donating the necessary funds to a scheme in South Devon, but we intend to replicate this scheme in Sussex. We are currently talking to West Sussex County Council about this, and may end up starting our own scheme.

Electricity usage reductions

There are two ways in which MPL Broadcast have reduced our electricity usage caused by location filming. Most of MPL's equipment actually works from battery power, but the largest use of electricity on location is through lighting. Our lights are currently 650 watts each, and we use three normally. We now use lighting specifically made for the video industry that only uses 110 watts each. A massive saving.

When recharging our batteries MPL Broadcast now either charge them in the car using a power inverter as we drive along, or when we get back to our studio, we recharge them using a solar panel. Both of which have a zero impact on the environment.
